With  husband and son being elsewhere on New Year's and my daughter at home with her friends, I decided to utilize the last of the year (and the beginning) by working on my sculpture.
I am so excited to bring in 2012 with my art!
With resolutions in place, I am ready to take on 2012 with every creative moment I have. 
My resolutions are:
to not let time get in the way of me time/art time
to be a better person
to be a better friend
to be more creative in the kitchen
to continue to take care of myself
and lastly tiplay lots of tennis :)

Other work like making homemade pumpkin bread, pepper jelly and cookies has taken presidence to   "Mary" time. 
Thoughts of all the things I would like to do leaves me  looking forward to 2012 and the slow down of the new year.
I have started the clay application to the rough form and hope to find a day in the near future when I can finish the first phase of the sculpture. 
My hope this year is to be able to use my talents to help others connect with their own personal struggles and to bring my artwork  to new level.

This time of year  is stressful and can overwhelm each of us  with aplenty of events and activites. 
 With finally assembling the sculpture in a vertical stance, I am anxious to start the "dirty" work, but I wait patiently through the hustle and bustle of Christmas pageants, competitions and busyness that keep me from my art right now.
I have been reading a book called Resting in Him and focuses on different seasons in our lives. 
With winter arriving, this is our time to regenerate for the spring that is fast approaching.  Rest and enjoy this time of year. 
The worries and stresses of tomorrow can be left for just that. 

]]><![CDATA[The First Step...]]>Sun, 27 Nov 2011 17:48:40 -0800http://www.thummprints.com/1/post/2011/11/the-first-step.htmlHave you ever felt when you are being nudged to move in a certain direction but you resist...sometimes for a long time? I am in this place now and starting to see everything unfold. 
The article on my skeletons was printed in the Virginian Pilot on Thursday and it is wonderful getting feedback from others. I hope that friends will send in stories of their struggles and successes with eating disorders for the world to see. 
As I prepare for my art show, I will be putting together a journal of all the stories that come in. I have had friends that have shared losing a love one to this horrible disease. I will never judge because I was there, all 88 pounds of me. I have managed to overcome this and want to help inspire others. 
God created us to be the beautiful people that we are inside and out. Society tends to put such a high demand and price on how we look on the outside, but our hearts are what is most important. It is the one organ that keeps us alive.

I can't wait to see what others think of my "prima ballerina"!


I am now working on the base and structure of my first bronze - eek!
I am treading into unknown waters and am a little nervous and apprehensive, but that is always a good thing. 
I was listening to KLove and Natalie Grant was speaking of her concerts and how she still gets butterflies every  time she performs. She shared that if she didn't that it would not be a good thing...being that comfortable.

It has been a busy fall and time once again has gotten away from me.
I have the opportunity to exhibit my work at TCC's Faculty Art Show in November. I am excited to present the ballerina skeletons to the public.
The sculpture is moving along very slowly for I have little time to sit and work. 
I hope that from mid November through January will be a more productive time for me and my art. 
I look forward to my creative time :-)

They say it takes 30 days to make it a habit - Wow! 3o weeks!
We will see how that goes...
I am currently working on my first prototype sculpture for breast cancer.
It is a lot more tedious than I thought it would in the beginning. 
How hard can sculpture work be because  I am an artist - ha!
The word humble comes to mind as I am approaching this new medium and I need to recognize that there is always that growing curve that helps us appreciate other artists so much more!
I am looking forward to posting my 2-d works in the next few weeks once the copyrights are approved. 
I can't wait to share my "shock art" with the public.

]]><![CDATA[Copyright Time!]]>Thu, 08 Sep 2011 19:27:39 -0800http://www.thummprints.com/1/post/2011/09/post-title-click-and-type-to-edit2.htmlIt is hard to believe that I not only finished the six skeleton drawings I started working on at the beginning of the year, but also the Façade series (three paintings).
I am so excited!
I  have just finished copyrighting everything and I am ready to create my breast cancer sculpture. I will be posting some of my artwork in the very near future.

I finally feel free to just enjoy creating artwork without the worry of a client liking or not liking it. It reminds me of when you are young and you just do something because you can, not because you have to.
 There is a joy in this that is so wonderful! 

I hope the world can appreciate my works  as I race on to the finish line.

With a skeleton on loan, I am on deadline to complete the drawings as soon as I possibly can.
I have seven drawings in mind and have finished three to date. 
I have also completed one of my facade paintings. 
I can not wait to show the two series :-)
